City Manager's Report Mr. DeForest declared that a meeting will be held in Council Chambers on
Wednesday, October 25 at 6 p.m. to discuss the ballot renewal for the road levy. He informed that further
information could be obtained from the City's website. He explained that Service Director Paul Barnett would
be retiring at the end of the year and Paul Magovac would then assume this role. Both will be in attendance
at Wednesday's meeting. The road levy is a 10-year levy that will cost approximately $26 per $100,000
appraised home value. This is a renewal and will not increase taxes.

Currently, 144 veterans have signed up to attend the breakfast at St. Ambrose on Wednesday at 7:30 a.m.
There are 6 additional slots available. Anyone with a DD2-14 is welcome to attend. The breakfast is paid for
by Homestead Insurance.

He went on to thank everyone who went to Columbus last week to testify about the House Bill and to repeal
Ohio Revised Code 5501.60. The introduction and passage of this bill was unjust and he appreciates those
involved in Homes not Highways for testifying before the committee.

CITY OF BRUNSWICK 3
Brunswick City Council Monday, October 23, 2023

Mr. DeForest offered a special thank you to the Brunswick Blue Devils for defeating the Strongsville
Mustangs in football. He congratulated them on their win.
Open Forum There was none.
Unfinished Business Mr. Hanek noted that many residents were in attendance to show their continued
concern for the proposed interchange on Boston Road. He expressed his thanks and pride to everyone who
did a phenomenal job in testifying and representing the City in Columbus.

He pointed out that Strongsville had the lead in the football game, but Brunswick hung in there and ended
up winning the game. He explained that this was an example of what needs to be done with the interchange
situation.

Mr. Delsanter added that the U.S. Coastguard and the U.S. Space Force should be included in the list of
veterans able to participate in the veterans’ breakfast.

Mr. Lambert informed that 17 community leaders and residents traveled to Columbus to testify last week.
He felt it was reaffirming to see so many residents take time from their schedules to participate in what
ended up being a 6-8 hour day. Everyone spoke with eloquence and decorum. Mr. Lambert thanked
everyone for a great job.
New Business Mr. Smith thanked everyone in the community who were involved in the Oaks Soup Cookoff.
Eighteen people prepared soup. Over $4,000 was raised after expenses. This was a great event for the Oaks
Family Care Center.
Adjournment Nicholas Hanek moved to adjourn, seconded by Tim Smith. Roll Call - Ayes - 7, Nicholas
Hanek, Brandon Lambert, Michael Abella Jr., Keith Kuczma, Joseph Delsanter, Tim Smith, Kristy Piper.
Nays - 0. Motion Carried.

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 7:23 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Laura Timura
Clerk of Council

Mayor Ron Falconi
