CITY OF BRUNSWICK, OHIO 
                               MINUTES OF COUNCIL 
                              Monday, September 8, 2025 

 

Prayer and Pledge of Allegiance The regular meeting of Brunswick City Council was called to order by 
Mayor Ron Falconi at 7:00 p.m. at the Municipal Complex.
                                               
Roll Call of Members showed the following Council Members present: Nicholas Hanek, Brandon Lambert, 
Michael Abella Jr., Keith Kuczma, Joseph Delsanter, Tim Smith, Kristy Piper. 
 
Others Present: Mayor Ron Falconi, City Manager/Safety Director Carl DeForest, Law Director Dennis Nevar, 
Clerk of Council Laura Timura.

 Approval of Special Council Meeting Minutes   
Special Council Meeting Minutes dated August 4, 2025: 
 
Nicholas Hanek moved to approve the Special Council Meeting Minutes dated August 4, 2025, as written, 
seconded by Kristy Piper.  Roll Call - Ayes - 7, Nicholas Hanek, Brandon Lambert, Michael Abella Jr., Keith 
Kuczma, Joseph Delsanter, Tim Smith, Kristy Piper.  Nays - 0. Motion Carried.
                                                              
Mayor’s Report:  
 
Mayor's Court Financial Reports for the months ending July 2025 and August 2025 will be posted on the 
website and added to the minutes for the record. 


 
  
Certificate presentations to Police, Fire, and Service Departments by Medina County Veteran Memorial Fund 
President, Joe Destro: 
 
Joe Destro, President of the Medina County Veterans Memorial Fund presented certificates of appreciation 
to Mayor Falconi and the Service, Police and Fire Departments. He recognized their assistance and support 
of the Colors of Honor Ceremony. He thanked the City for all of their support.
                                                              
Mayor's Update: 
 
Mayor Falconi informed that Robert McCafferty had passed away on August 8, 2025.  He was a long-time 
community activist and participated in many Council Meetings. He offered prayers and condolences to his 
family. 
 
Mayor Falconi then relayed that Gloria Tews had passed away on August 21, 2025. She was a long-time 
member of St. Ambrose and a candidate for Mayor in 2005. The mayor attended her wake and offered 
prayers and condolences to her family as well.
                                      
                     Mrs. Timura had no report this evening.

RES. NO. 71-2025 - A resolution authorizing the City Manager to enter into a three (3) year agreement with 
two (2) separate one (1) year options with AJ's Property Maintenance LLC to provide Cemetery 
Maintenance and Caretaker Services in an annual amount not to exceed submitted bid prices. - 3rd Reading 
(Committee-of-the-Whole, Administration/Paul Magovac):

Always Green Landscaping, LLC to provide grass/weed mowing, debris clean-up services and branch 
trimming in an annual amount not to exceed $63,700.00 pursuant to submitted bid prices. - 3rd

Park and Recreation purposes and authorizing and directing the transfer of funds from the General Fund to

that property. - 1st Reading (To be brought from Committee-of-the Whole, Administration/Dennis Nevar or

2026 with two (2) separate one (1) year renewal options, in an amount not to exceed submitted bid prices.-

RES. NO. 78-2025 - A resolution declaring October 20th Community Media Day in the City of Brunswick and 
recognizing the contributions of Brunswick Area Television. - 1st Reading (To be brought from Services, 
Utilities, Technology, and Cable Committee, Administration/Carl DeForest): 
 
Mr. Smith moved this resolution to second reading.
                                          
City Manager's Report  Mr. DeForest thanked Joe Destro (President of Medina County Veteran Memorial 
Fund) and Ed Zachary (Veteran Service Officer) for setting up the Colors of Honor fundraiser to raise money 
for veterans in Medina County who are struggling financially. Monies collected may be used to offer 
assistance with items such as wheelchairs, ramps, and vehicle or house repairs.  Additional information can 
be obtained by contacting the City Manager's Office. 
 
Branch chipping will occur September 15 through 19.  Branches should be placed curbside with the cut side 
toward the street, so as not to block the sidewalk.  The pickup should occur the day of collection.  Further 
information can be obtained on the City's website. 
 
Trike and Bike will occur on Friday, September 19 at 6 p.m. on the football field to raise money for pediatric 
cancer research. He informed that less than 10% of funds donated to the American Cancer Society are 
directed to pediatric cancer research. Mr. DeForest noted that over $185,000 had been raised in the City of 
Brunswick over the last five years. 
 
The Veteran's Appreciation Breakfast is scheduled for Wednesday, October 22 at 7:30 a.m. Those wishing to 
get involved or participate should RSVP to Betsy Lehky at (330) 558-6826.

 Open Forum              
Unfinished Business  Mr. Delsanter mentioned that he attended the wake of Robert McCafferty. He shared 
memories he had of Mr. McCafferty and pointed out that he was a very involved member of the 
community. He then offered his sympathy to his family. Mr. Delsanter further shared that Gloria Tews was a 
valuable member of the community who had run for the office of Mayor. He offered condolences to her 
family as well.
            


 New Business  
Consideration of a liquor permit transfer from Macs Convenience Stores LLC to MM CS Services LLC at 521 
Pearl Road, Brunswick, Ohio 44212 and Consideration of a new liquor permit request from MM CS Services 
LLC at 521 Pearl Road, Brunswick, Ohio 44212: 


 


 
Carl DeForest noted there were no objections from the administration. 
 
Nicholas Hanek congratulated Councilman Smith and his wife Gayle on their celebration of 55 years of 
marriage.  
 
Tim Smith revealed that Bike Medina County had a very successful summer with rides occurring every two 
weeks.  Some of those in attendance traveled from Lodi, Westlake, and Mentor. The last ride was the most
