Like most of the City’s boards and commissions, these bodies are comprised of a combination of appointments from both Council and the Mayor. In this case, Council has two appointments to make to each of these bodies. Earlier this year, Council and the Administration put out a joint call for applicants for these vacancies. RESOLUTION 2026- 32 BY: KEPPLE ARESOLUTION to take effect immediately provided it receives the affirmative vote of at least two thirds of the members of Council, or otherwise to take effect and be in force after the earliest period allowed by law, appointing two volunteer citizens to serve on the Community Reinvestment Area Housing Council. WHEREAS, Section 3735.69 of Ohio Revised Code requires the City to establish and maintain a Community Reinvestment Area Housing Council comprised of volunteer citizens for the purpose of providing oversight to the City’s Community Reinvestment Areas; and, WHEREAS, Section 3735.69 of Ohio Revised Code directs Council to appoint two members to the Community Reinvestment Area Housing Council; and, WHEREAS, as set forth in Section 2.12 of the Third Amended Charter of the City of Lakewood, this Council by a vote of at least two thirds of its members determines that this resolution is an emergency measure and that it shall take effect immediately, and that it is necessary for the immediate preservation of the public property, health, and safety and to provide for the usual daily operation of municipal departments, in that this position should be filled immediately so as to ensure the Community Reinvestment Area Housing Council is at full capacity to perform its work; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, OHIO: Section 1. As we've heard from the community, including the Lakewood Youth Council, and discussed here on this dais, Gender Neutral Single Use Restrooms solve many problems for a variety of citizens in different situations. Older individuals that need assistance, parents with children, women, and LGBTQIA+ community members, that might be questioned or even threatened for going to pee, will all benefit from this resolution. Imagine yourself in public and nature calls. Cis-gender people would probably look for a sign with a stick figure with a dress or a pair of pants and take care of your business. For a Transgendered person and many in the LGBTQIA+ community, this may not be as easy, and instead bring anxiety, exclusion, or even danger. It's time that we stop this nonsense and make Gender Neutral Single Use Restrooms the norm instead of the exception. With city leadership under Mayor George, the resources to encourage change, and a community that values progress, we can help bring dignity and respect to all our neighbors. Thank you. RESOLUTION NO. 2026- 34 BY: STREBIG A RESOLUTION to encourage businesses and other places of public accommodation within the City of Lakewood to convert single- user, gender- specific restrooms to gender- neutral restrooms. WHEREAS, several Lakewood businesses and other places of public accommodation currently have single- user, gender- specific restrooms for their customers and patrons; and WHEREAS, the City wishes to encourage these entities to convert such single- user, gender- specific restrooms to gender- neutral restrooms available for all persons; and WHEREAS, the City will attempt to provide financial support and assistance to willing businesses and other places of public accommodation to purchase signage for gender- neutral restrooms; now therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, OHIO Section 1. That the City of Lakewood encourages all businesses and places of public accommodation with single- user, gender- specific restrooms, as defined by the Ohio Basic Building Code, to convert those restrooms to gender- neutral restrooms available for use by all persons regardless of sex, gender identity, or familial status.
