WHEREAS, the City of Lakewood is served by a dedicated group of public servants who perform crossing guard duties on every school day in our community; and WHEREAS, the presence of crossing guards significantly improves safety, including for vehicle - pedestrian collisions, dangerous " near misses", and is a key component of interventions that can reduce child pedestrian injuries by 20 to 50 percent; and WHEREAS, the goals of the City of Lakewood include both active transportation and active, healthy lifestyles, making safe walking and cycling conditions a high priority; and WHEREAS, Lakewood is a walking community, and Lakewood City Schools is a walking school district; and WHEREAS, crossing guards perform their duties for modest pay and with a unique work schedule; and WHEREAS, crossing guards reliably perform their duties in hot, cold, rain, sleet, or snow so that others might be safe; and WHEREAS, Lakewood crossing guards are committed residents who not only perform their duties but do so with kindness, courtesy, and friendliness that brings smiles and neighborliness to our community; now, therefore BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF LAKEWOOD, OHIO: Section 1. That this Council does hereby recognize the vital importance of the public servants who perform crossing guard duties to increase the safety of walking and cycling in our community; does celebrate their service; and does thank them for the same. Section 2. It is found and determined that all formal actions of this Council concerning and relating to the passage of this resolution were adopted in an open meeting of this Council, and that all such deliberations of this Council and of any of its committees that resulted in such formal action were in meetings open to the public in compliance with all legal requirements. li
