Former Sears at Great Northern Mall Eyed for Grocery Super Center and Gas Station

North Olmsted authorized a development agreement with R6 Motors, Inc. for the former Sears store at Great Northern Mall, potentially bringing a grocery super center and gas station under the Mall Area Mixed Use overlay district.

The former Sears store at Great Northern Mall may have a new future. North Olmsted City Council passed Ordinance 2026-14 authorizing Mayor Jones to enter into a development agreement with R6 Motors, Inc. for the property.

R6 Motors owns the former Sears site, which comprises a portion of the Great Northern Mall complex. According to the ordinance, the developer is pursuing redevelopment as a potential grocery super center with an associated gas station.

The project falls under the city's Mall Area Mixed Use (MAMU) overlay district — a zoning tool designed to encourage revitalization of the aging mall property with a broader mix of commercial uses than traditional retail zoning allows.

The development agreement sets the terms for how the project will proceed, including any incentives, timelines, and design standards the city requires.
