North Olmsted council minutes — March 3, 2026: outage response, body‑camera grant and community events

At its March 3, 2026 meeting, North Olmsted City Council heard reports on a recent multi-community power outage and a $38,070 micro-grant to expand the police body‑worn camera program, and received updates on several upcoming community events and an ongoing enforcement matter at Westbury Apartments.

The Council meeting of March 3, 2026 was called to order and the roll was called; the February 17 Council minutes and February 24 public hearing minutes were approved. Council President Brossard noted four items requested for suspension this evening: Ordinance 2026-18 (second reading), Resolutions 2026-20 and 2026-23 (both first reading), and Resolution 2026-22.

Mayor Jones reported on a recent series of power outages affecting the city and surrounding communities, saying First Energy crews were working to restore service and asking residents to report outages directly to First Energy. The mayor also announced a free car seat check on March 26 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Fire Station No. 2; a $38,070 micro-grant from the Ohio Office of Criminal Justice Services to expand the body-worn camera program (replacement cameras, batteries, redaction software and increased storage); and the biannual paper shredding and computer equipment recycling event on March 21 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Recreation Center.

Additional event notices included the cardboard boat race on March 7 at 1:00 p.m. in the Rec Center pool, Juju’s Dino Dash on April 18 at 9:00 a.m. (5K or one-mile options), and the State of the City scheduled for March 26 at 6:30 p.m. at the high school Performing Arts Center. The Mayor’s Art Show was postponed due to Old Town Hall availability, and the city continues its search for a new Economic Development Director. The mayor also recognized the recent retirements of Jan Scarl (Building Department) and Sean Stacey (Storm Foreman).

Law Director Gareau updated Council on ongoing enforcement and litigation related to Westbury Apartments, citing longstanding exterior and underground garage deficiencies and surface‑lot repairs that remain noncompliant; he said the city will pursue charges and civil remedies as needed. Finance Director Radeff had no report that evening, and the meeting proceeded to the next items on the agenda.
