Sheetz Project Would Remove Extra Turn Lane on Lorain Road for Green Space

Engineering review for the Sheetz project at 29000 Lorain Road recommends reducing from two right-turn lanes to one, converting the extra pavement to green space while maintaining acceptable traffic levels at the intersection.
The Sheetz convenience store and gas station project planned for 29000 Lorain Road in North Olmsted would come with a notable change to the road itself: removing one of two right-turn lanes and converting the space to green landscaping.
According to the city's engineering memo presented to the Planning & Design Commission on January 28, 2026, a traffic impact study found the lane reduction would cause only a slight increase in delay with no reduction in the overall level of service at the intersection.
The engineering department noted several benefits: improved snow removal (the extra lane required additional plowing time), better pedestrian safety, and expanded green space along the corridor. The project also includes revised building elevations and a site photometric plan for the property at the corner of Lorain Road and Stearns Road.
