West Park Barber School Files $41K Permit to Redesign Its Kamm's Corners Streetfront

A barber school on Rocky River Drive in Kamm's Corners is rebuilding its street-facing retaining wall with a custom paver entrance — 'WP' initials set in stone at the center — plus seating walls on both sides. The $41,450 permit is a signal that the school is investing in its public face, not just its interior.

West Park Barber School has filed a $41,450 permit to tear out its existing brick-and-mortar retaining wall at 3873 Rocky River Drive and replace it with a fully redesigned streetfront.

The project description is specific: remove the old wall, open a new paver entrance in the center with the school's 'WP' letters set in the paving, rebuild the retaining walls on either side, and add seating walls at the north and south ends of the new entrance — plus an additional seating wall along Rocky River Road to the south.

A 3D design was submitted with the application.

The permit was filed April 11 and is currently in review by the city.

Kamm's Corners — the intersection of Rocky River Drive and Lorain Avenue — is one of Cleveland's more active West Side commercial districts, and small investments in streetscape tend to read as a statement about permanence. A barber school that spells its name in stone at the front door is not planning to leave.
